Hugh Masekela is sometimes known as the father of South African jazz. He played the trumpet, flugelhorn and coronet. He passed away in 2018 at the age of 78. In 1961, as part of the anti-apartheid campaign, he was exiled to the United States where he was befriended by Harry Belafonte.
