Valentines day : what not to buy unless your looking to get dumped

Valentines day can be tricky....if your single it means crying into a bucket (not carton but a bucket) of Ben and Jerrys or dancing with the girls. But if your seeing someone, its a mind field of what to get them.
If your only dating a short time, do you go romantic? or silly? or sexy?
seeing someone a long time? do you bother?
