Seems like Ariana Grande has been making countless appearances on this blog. From her "Bang Bang" collaboration with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj to the release of her sophomore album, My Everything, she seems to be everywhere. For her latest effort, the artist teams up with Chris Brown for "Don't Be Gone Too Long", an electrifying duet off his upcoming X album.
Brown, who seems to be making headlines for his law enforcement troubles than for his actual music, is back on the right track with the Grande pairing. "Don't Be Gone Too Long" was teased months ago with the release a video featuring Brown's killer dance moves and the track's infectious and endearing chorus, but today fans are treated to the full version of the track as well as the accompanying medieval music video.
The collaboration was a shocking announcement to begin with, but when the tribal/dance influences overcome the listener, the new release becomes an unexpected, lively venture. "Don't be gone too long, tell me who's gonna love me when you're gone," the two artists belt on a hook that should have no problem setting radio airwaves ablaze if ever officially released.
For the music video, Grande showcases her impressive ballet skills as a princess in distress as Brown plays the role of the hero doing anything to win her back. It's a touching, trippy, sharp visual that should allow critics to view Brown in a positive light once again. Having Grande's innocent image and beautiful vocals certainly does not hurt.
Is "Don't Be Gone Too Long" a winner for both Brown and Grande or is the new single just another to crowd the bland pop/dance genre?
UPDATE (12/30/2015): More than a year later, after the original "Don't Be Gone Too Long" collaboration between Brown and Grande was scrapped indefinitely, a solo version featuring Grande's vocals has somehow surfaced. The new version will certainly please the "Focus" singer's devoted fan base. Could she release the track as a future single?
